HA3 Task 3 Current Financial Issues




Financial Issues

There are multiple financial issues that may occur in the games industry that can prevent the completion of a project. The business may have thought that they have the money to create a project when the do not. The publishers may have mulled out due to the deadline not being met and another reason s that the gaming business can have gone out if business.

One of the biggest financial issues to the industry is piracy. Most video game data can be taken from the original medium and distributed for free. Common methods are an emulator; modchip; custom flash card or a modified firmware. This crime causes millions of dollars in damage and is hard to prevent as well as prosecute. Many companies take steps to improve their systems to keep piracy from occurring.

Budgets

Budgets are highly important in the games industry as it provides a game plan for long term business operations and day to day operations as well. When properly used a budget can assist any business meet its goals; help it become more profitable and give it a push through tough financial times. There are many reasons to create a budget, one is to persuade any potential investors that your company is a good choice to invest in. The other is to plan business finances(how much money do you have and how much you plan to utilise it?)

Fixed Costs

Fixed costs are those which will occur if sales are made or not. Fixed costs include things like rent; insurance; utilities and certain labour. Fixed costs will not increase or decrease with a change in sales, meaning that the greater the sales, the less effect that the fixed costs will have.

Monitoring

Once a budget is set up, compare it to the actual figures ever month, this is to check for any differences and establish why the changes are there (if any have been noticed). Adjusting expenditure or sales efforts to bring the next group of numbers in line with the budget is highly useful as it allows you to see what you must change in order to know if you're inside of the budget.
